310 miles

Avg. Fuel Econ. 22.5 mpg

We hit the road at 9 AM, headed towards Zion National Park. We were able to do an amazing drive through of the park and enjoy the incredible views from the road, and go through the famous tunnel. After Zion, we drove south towards the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National park .Although we weren’t able to drive through it like we did at the southern end of the Grand Canyon on day 3, we still enjoyed the wide views. (Not to be confused with the South Rim) The West side of the country allows you to see for miles at a time, something that is not as common on the East Coast.

One thing we had not expected to see on the road was the active wildland fire in the wooded area heading up to the Grand Canyon. While it was pretty contained in the morning, when we drove back in the mid-afternoon the smoke was thick enough to cast a haze over the sky. We enjoyed the Bose sound system once again as well as satellite radio throughout the day. There was a good amount of construction on the roads leading up to the Canyon, where we were often stopped for upwards of thirty minutes at a time. With no connection due to the terrain, and no movement, the radio and sound system helped to pass the painful minutes waiting for traffic to finally budge. If given the choice, we would take the trail view of the Canyon (Day 3) over the tourist view any day.
