Day 10-11: California to Utah

147 & 787 Miles (Respectively)
Avg. Fuel Econ. 16.5 & 19.7 mpg
Day 10
Drove to San Fransisco. Tried to get some pictures along the coast but it was all encased in thick fog. We stopped by the fire house from the Princess Diaries, toured the USS Pampanito
Which is a WWII submarine. Old Subs are tight. Then we did some walking around city. Drive to a great overlook area where we could see some of the Golden Gate Bridge. Drove part of the route of the greatest car chase ever filmed, Bullitt, and we drove down the famous Lombard St. The 77 mile off road trip was great training for some of these roads. We turned on the Off road display to see what the incline pitch of some of the hills were and it was almost as steep as our Glenn canyon trip at 15 degrees. Then we traveled south to the Redwood state park and looked at some really big trees. The stop and go city driving and the narrow back roads caused us to get less than ideal gas milage but it was very worth it.
Day 11
Day 11 was the long drive from the San Jose area to Salt Lake City UT. We drove through several mountain passes and the highlight for me was route 80 straight through the Bonneville Salt Flats Learning that the trucks gas milage doesn’t really like the 80 MPH speed limits in this area as we only averaged 19.7. The truck is very comfortable on long drives and rides more like an SUV that a truck. Which on these long days is welcome.
